Student Volunteering at ACE – Freya A

As part of Student Volunteering week we’ve asked our some of our volunteers who are currently studying to write about their experience volunteering with ACE at The Learning Club.

Our final volunteer is Freya who joined us towards the end of the 2022 academic year and who also volunteers at our Thursday session.

I began volunteering with TLC in April 2022. I was interested in gaining some experience working with children whilst completing my university degree to increase my chances of getting a related graduate job, and to make a positive difference in the community. TLC provided an excellent opportunity to do this through supporting children’s learning and development of skills.

I particularly enjoy participating in the fun and educational activities, supporting the children in their achievements during these activities.

As this is my first experience of supporting children in a classroom environment, it has been challenging learning the most effective way to communicate with the children. However, as a result, my experience at TLC has improved my skills in this area.

I also volunteer as a research assistant for a centre studying infant social and moral development, developing skills in data analysis and coding.

Volunteering is important to me as it is valuable in developing many important skills and adds meaning to my life as I enjoy supporting and working with others.

I would thoroughly recommend volunteering with a charity as you can really see the value you have as a volunteer to the organisation and the people they support.
