In this third edition we chatted to Garry Williams who is a volunteer with the engAGE project where he is involved with helping the residents enjoy group games such crosswords and Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
Garry, how did you get involved with ACE Cardiff?
I originally got involved with ACE through through Quest, which is a a supported employment programme at Innovate Trust.
How long have you been involved?
I’ve been involved with ACE for nearly 3 1/2 years now!
What activities do you do at ACE?
I help with the engAGE project where I operate the computer for the Who Wants to be a Millionaire game that we play at the various care homes around Cardiff. I like being able to help entertain the residents and see them enjoy being involved with the games. It allows them to do something in a group setting and gives them a chance to stimulate their minds which is really great.
I help set up the computers for the Pi Shop as well, and also take care of the resident fish at the ACE office because I know they wouldn’t survive if left to Gerry!
What do you get out of volunteering?
I really like being able to give something back to the community through volunteering. I also like being able to use my time in a productive way and have the opportunity to meet different people involved with the charity.
