We’ve now come to the end of the eighth year of The Learning Club from ACE Cardiff and we’re learning all the time! Learning about the best way to make a difference to the education of the disadvantaged children and young people that come to our sessions.
Over the years we’ve developed the sessions to meet the need. They now include one offering basic literacy and numeracy help to children in Years 3&4 referred by primary schools; another is tailored to children attending primary school (Years 3 – 6) and a third aimed at the transition years 6 – 8. Another one specifically supports young people studying for GCSEs in the current academic year. To date we’ve based ourselves in the Butetown area of south Cardiff. In 2016 we expanded into Grangetown and Riverside and from September we go further to the west (Ely & Caerau) and the east (Splott and Adamsdown).
The landscape for the educational support needed in Cardiff will never remain stationary, so we regularly have to ask ourselves if we’re providing the right services to the community. Thanks to the support of volunteers behind the scenes at ACE Cardiff, we feel that we’ve never been in a better position to do that. And with our superb volunteers who help prepare and deliver our learning sessions, we are looking forward to starting the next academic year in September and continuing to learn, along with the children and young people that attend The Learning Club.
